Governor Herrera will pitch "A Safe Veracruz" security plan at meeting of leaders of southwestern states

Check out this video that the State released in May to gather support for its "A Safe Veracruz" security plan. I don't expect anyone to get much out of the video besides a few chuckles. Make sure you're listening around the third minute when what I think is the theme song to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" compliments some random shots of the state police taking care of business.

Anyway, even though the plan isn't really new (I think the Governor first announced it last May) it's just beginning to gain greater coverage as Gov. Herrera has recently expressed sincere interest in broadening its implementation. He hopes to do so in the next few days as he meets with leaders on both state and federal political levels, including President Fecal.

While the plan's ostensible objective is to stem the growing nuisance of statewide organized crime, tomorrow's meeting with eight of Veracruz's neighboring, oil producing states indicates that the plan has wider implications than just fighting street crime. Of course, in wake of last month's Pemex attacks, security and oil production are now referred to in the same breath.

Herrera will then present the states' proposals in a meeting with Fecal the following day. We'll have to wait and see how this pans out, but if nothing else, it represents the growing political influence of Mexico's nine or so oil/gas producing states.
