Mexico`s 9/10-11, 2007: Six PEMEX pipelines blow up

I have to head off to class but I just wanted to post some basic background to last night`s attacks on six separate Veracruz pipelines of Mexico`s national oil industry, PEMEX. There`s also plenty of info in the constantly updated articles on the right side of the screen.

Mexico`s underground guerilla group, Popular Revolutionary Army, (EPR) has taken responsibilty for the attacks. Since its founding in 1996 EPR has proven itself to be more violent than the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, that sprang up in 1994 defending the indigenous rights of the people of the Southern state of Chiapas. Many people here believe that these attacks represent a reinvigoration of Mexico`s guerilla resistance movement which seems to show its face every year around this time.

I promise, in the upcoming days I´ll have much more to write concerning both these attacks and the re-surfacing national resentment to big business in Mexico. Stay tuned!
